Ways to support University of Galway

Annual Giving
The Alumni Fund at University of Galway is a testament to the remarkable generosity of our Alumni who donate annually to assist students and academics in their work.

Many challenges lie ahead for our students and researchers. The Alumni fund allows us to award scholarships to the brightest of students to study at University of Galway regardless of their means. It enables students who are facing crisis or financial hardship to remain at University and it provides significant funds to our researchers in the areas of Biomedical Science and Engineering, Social Science and Public Policy and Humanities to name but a few.

The fund enables the University to respond quickly to students facing crisis and to increase our research quality and productivity.
The 1845 Legacy Society
The University has benefited greatly through the kind and generous gifts made from benefactors over the years. The 1845 Society was established to recognise and support alumni and friends of University of Galway who have included the University in their will. A legacy can be tailored to suit individual circumstances and every gift, no matter what size, can make a real difference. Specific purpose or designated legacies are gifts which reflect the particular interests and concerns of donors. General purpose legacies can be applied by the University to priorities at the time of transfer.

Leaving a legacy can offer an opportunity to commemorate an individual or a family and create a living testimony for future generations to see and appreciate. Buildings, rooms and scholarships can be named in recognition of a gift. We also welcome and respect gifts made anonymously.

In making a gift to University of Galway, you can play a part in ensuring that the University continues to be at the forefront of innovation and excellence in teaching and research.

Lead Gifts
For many donors a lead gift is an opportunity to reach a major lifetime decision by making a philanthropic contribution of a substantial scale. These gifts come about as a result of a convergence of interests between the University and donors interested in specific projects or programmes. Such funding can help create an entirely new project or support an existing area of study.

At University of Galway many of these gifts are for bricks and mortar projects which provide funds to upgrade facilities or build new amenities. Others are for academic resources such as centres and institutes engaging in specialised, often interdisciplinary areas of study.
