Student Sports Centre
The NUI Galway sports center was developed through the generous support of The Atlantic Philanthropies and the students of NUI Galway. The building houses an impressive range of facilities and equipment including a 25 meter competition standard pool with movable floor, fully equipped resistance training area, state of the art gym and associated rooms for saunas, steam rooms and recovery suite with ice baths and medical treatment rooms. The sports center also boasts a basketball arena and sports hall with bleacher seating for over 600 spectators
Further support from Bank of Ireland and Galway University Foundation has further enhanced sport in NUI Galway. Over 4,000 students are involved in the University's 45 sport clubs and the number of those taking part in physical activity exceeds 6,700.
The support of our donors has helped to develop a wide range of activities, from athletics and programmes for those aiming for international and Olympic honours to those whose ambition is to enjoy exercise, stay healthy and develop friendships.
The programme for sport continues to evolve thanks to the generous support of our donors, Bank of Ireland. These developments include High Performance Strategy for elite athletes across a number of sports which aims to provide an environment where talented and focused athletes can reach their full potential on that national and international stages.
